Apple has presented Apple Watch Series 11, featuring the most comprehensive health features to date, extended battery life, an even more durable glass front, and 5G cellular connectivity – all in an ultra-thin and extremely comfortable design. As the ultimate health and wellness partner, Apple Watch Series 11 alerts users showing signs of chronic high blood pressure – also known as hypertension – and provides new insights on sleep quality thanks to Sleep Score, which complements the vast range of health features built into the device. With a battery life of up to 24 hours and a glass screen that is twice as scratch-resistant, the Apple Watch is easier to wear than ever, day or night. watchOS 26 offers more ways to move, stay fit, and keep in touch with Workout Buddy powered by Apple Intelligence, the wrist turn gesture, new watch faces, and more.

Apple Watch Series 11, starting at €449 available in aluminum in a new space gray finish as well as in black, rose gold, or silver, and also in natural polished titanium, gold, or slate.

" Apple Watch has become the most popular watch in the world. It uses advanced sensors to help millions of people better understand their health simply by wearing it on their wrist. It also serves as a fitness coach, a messaging hub, a mobile wallet, and, of course, a beautiful watch ,” said Stan Ng, Vice President of Apple Watch and Health Product Marketing at Apple. " With powerful new health features (hypertension notifications and sleep score), extended battery life, a more scratch-resistant glass display, and 5G cellular connectivity, all in a slim and comfortable design that is already well-loved, Apple Watch Series 11 is an indispensable companion that keeps users healthy, fit, safe, and connected around the clock. "

Extended battery life, more resistant Ion-X glass and 5G cellular connectivity

Apple Watch Series 11 now offers up to 24 hours of battery life in a slim and comfortable design. It is therefore easier to wear it at night after a full day of use(1). Apple Watch Series 11 is also compatible with fast charging, allowing it to regain up to 8 hours of battery life in just 15 minutes.

The slim and refined design of Apple Watch is also extremely robust to accompany users throughout the day, whether at the gym or during running or swimming sessions. The glass front of the aluminum models of Apple Watch Series 11 offers twice the scratch resistance(2). Made of Ion-X glass (reinforced by ion exchange) – an exclusive glass already recognized as the strongest in the industry –, the display now features a ceramic coating designed by Apple that bonds at the atomic level to the glass using a physical vapor deposition process, significantly strengthening the surface. As for the titanium models, they retain their sapphire glass surface, the most scratch and crack-resistant screen coating.

With a mobile plan, Apple Watch allows users to answer calls, send texts, and even contact emergency services for help in case of an emergency, without having their iPhone with them(3). Apple Watch now features 5G cellular connectivity that enhances performance and enables faster downloads of music, podcasts, and apps thanks to higher bandwidth(4). For better reception in poorly covered areas, Apple Watch Series 11 also includes a reworked cellular antenna to cover more bands and simultaneously utilize both system antennas when necessary, drastically increasing signal strength.

Hypertension Notifications

In addition to its essential health features, Apple Watch Series 11 introduces hypertension notifications, an innovative feature that alerts users showing signs of chronic high blood pressure, or hypertension(5). Hypertension is one of the leading preventable causes of heart attacks, strokes, and kidney disease, affecting approximately 1.3 billion adults worldwide. However, as it often comes without any symptoms, many people do not receive regular medical follow-ups, and it remains difficult to detect during a consultation with a simple blood pressure reading, it often goes unnoticed.

The hypertension notifications on Apple Watch leverage data collected from the optical heart rate sensor to analyze how the user's blood vessels respond to heartbeats. The algorithm operates passively in the background by analyzing data over a 30-day period, then sends a notification if persistent signs of hypertension are detected. Thanks to these notifications, users gain valuable insights into their health that will allow them to identify this widespread condition, simply by wearing their Apple Watch. They can then make potentially life-saving changes to their lifestyle or start a treatment that will reduce the risk of serious complications or long-term effects.

Like all of Apple’s health features, the hypertension notifications have undergone rigorous scientific validation. The feature was developed using an advanced machine learning algorithm and data from numerous studies involving over 100 000 participants. Its effectiveness was then demonstrated during a clinical study conducted with over 2 000 participants. Although hypertension notifications cannot detect all occurrences of this disorder, the popularity of Apple Watch allows for an estimate that more than 1 million people will be alerted to potential hypertension during the first year of the deployment of this feature.

" Hypertension is the leading preventable cause of heart attacks and strokes. Nonetheless, millions of people are still undiagnosed ,” said Dr Harlan Krumholz, cardiologist at Yale New Haven Hospital and researcher at Yale University. " Offering simple, accurate, and integrated detection in daily life could help affected individuals receive care at a much earlier stage and prevent avoidable damage. "

When a user receives a hypertension notification, they are advised to record their blood pressure readings for seven days using a third-party blood pressure monitor and to share the results with a healthcare professional during a medical consultation, as recommended in the latest guidelines from the American Heart Association regarding the diagnosis and monitoring of hypertension.

The Hypertension Notifications feature is expected to receive FDA approval and that of other regulatory bodies soon. It will be available in over 150 countries and regions, including the United States and the EU, this month. Hypertension notifications will be available on the Apple Watch Series 9 (and later models) and Apple Watch Ultra 2 (or later model) with watchOS 26.

Sleep Score

Sleep is a vital health parameter and plays a crucial role in daily recovery. In addition to allowing users to track their sleep, the powerful sensors in Apple Watch gather data overnight, such as heart rate, wrist temperature, blood oxygen levels, and respiratory rate, and are even capable of identifying possible sleep apnea. With watchOS 26, Apple Watch introduces Sleep Score, which helps users evaluate their sleep quality and enhance its restorative effects(6).

The quality of sleep is influenced by several factors such as duration, bedtimes, frequency of nighttime awakenings, and the duration of each sleep phase. With Sleep Score, Apple Watch analyzes each of these parameters to provide users with transparent and easy-to-interpret data on the overall quality of their sleep. Upon waking, the sleep score assigns an overall score and a classification in the Sleep app on Apple Watch. A clear breakdown of the most critical elements allows users to know which aspect to prioritize to improve the quality of their sleep. They can also set up quick access to their sleep score from a watch face complication or the Smart Scroll and review their sleep score history in the Health app on their iPhone.

The Sleep Score feature follows an approach combining a score and a classification algorithm, in line with the latest guidelines published by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the National Sleep Foundation, and the World Sleep Society. These algorithms have been tested and developed based on sleep tracking data collected over more than five million nights as part of the Apple Heart and Movement Study.

Hypertension notifications and Sleep Score add to the extensive set of health features already available on the Apple Watch, such as arrhythmia notifications, high or low heart rate notifications, the ECG app, Blood Oxygen, sleep apnea notifications, and retrospective ovulation estimates.

New Features in the Exercise App

With watchOS 26, Apple Watch Series 11 is equipped with Workout Buddy, a pioneering fitness experience powered by Apple Intelligence that analyzes a person's workout data and activity history to send personalized verbal encouragement during the session, relying on data such as heart rate, pace, distance, Activity rings, personal fitness records, and much more(7). Workout Buddy will initially be available in English for the most popular exercise types and will require an Apple Watch with a Bluetooth headset or earbuds nearby an iPhone supporting Apple Intelligence.

Additionally, the new design of the Exercise app makes it easier to customize workouts with options like Exercise Views, Pace, Run with Route, or custom workouts. Apple Watch users can now view and create workouts in the Fitness app on their iPhone, including custom workouts, and easily find them in the Exercise app on Apple Watch.

To boost their motivation, they can select songs and podcasts in the Exercise app that will automatically start as soon as they begin a workout. And for an even simpler experience, Apple Music can now select the best music for a workout based on the type of exercise and the user's preferences, or display song or podcast suggestions based on the types of content recently listened to during that type of exercise(8).

Integrated watchOS 26

In addition to hypertension notifications, Sleep Score, and Workout Buddy, Apple Watch Series 11 with watchOS 26 features a new look and integrates even smarter features and more personalized ways to stay fit, connected, and healthy, including :

  • A new software design with Liquid Glass, offering a dynamic and expressive experience that enhances the Photos face, widgets, and Smart Scroll suggestions, notifications, Control Center, as well as controls and navigation within apps.

  • A reimagined dial gallery including two new additions : Flow, which displays numbers in Liquid Glass and refracts color swirls in the background reacting to wrist movements, and Exactograph, a modern reinterpretation of a traditional regulator clock that separates hours, minutes, and seconds for precise time display. Additionally, around twenty faces have been updated so that users can now see the second hand without having to raise their wrist.

  • A new wrist turn gesture allowing users to ignore notifications, stop a timer, or disable an alarm, which adds to the double-tap gesture to offer users more ways to use their Apple Watch with one hand.

  • Smart Scroll suggestions, proactive prompts that provide concrete and relevant suggestions in real-time based on contextual data, sensor data, and the user’s daily habits.

  • Direct Translation in Messages with Apple Intelligence, which allows automatic translation of incoming messages into the user's preferred language, directly on their wrist, when the Apple Watch is paired with an iPhone on which Apple Intelligence is activated(9). If the device language is set to English, the Apple Watch intelligently suggests relevant actions using the context of a conversation in the Messages app, such as starting Assistant if someone asks for the arrival time at home(10).

  • The Notes app, which allows users to view their notes or create them directly on their wrist.

  • Hold waiting assistance and Call Filtering, which appear in the Phone app if the iPhone is nearby(11). When a user is on hold on the phone, Hold Waiting Assistance detects when someone picks up and informs them it’s their turn. The Call Filtering feature allows for easier management of calls from unknown numbers by asking the caller to disclose their identity and reason for the call before ringing, allowing users to decide whether to answer, decline, or request more information.
